Best Oster Rice Cooker Review

In Asia, rice is eaten daily. It goes with a wide variety of dishes. However, in the states, you will be lucky to eat it once a month. Methods of cooking rice usually involve a pot with a tight fitting lid. If you get the timing or ration wrong, the rice will be ruined. Using a Rice Cooker is a easy way to get perfect rice each time. This Oster Rice Cooker Review will take a closer look at the design and feature. We will see if this contraption is any good.

How to Use a Oster Rice Cooker and Instructions

Using a Rice Cooker can be scary at first, but once you learn how to do it, its pretty easy. You should cook the amount of rice depending on the size of your rice cooker.

To start, measure out the rice you want to cook. Put it in a rice washing basin and rinse at least twice or until the water comes out clear. The goal is to remove as much starch as possible. If you skip this step, it can become gummy.

Next is the soak, soaking is only required for short grain rice. If you are cooking long grain, then its not necessary. Soaking time for short grain rice is usually 30 minutes to an hour. Exact soaking time will vary depending on manufacturer.

After soaking, drain the water and measure the appropriate amount of water. This amount will vary depending on the type of rice and the variety of rice. For short grain, I usually use 1.5 times the water. For long grain, I use 1 x 1. Every rice will require different amount of water.

Put the bowl into the rice cooker and press the cook. Once the rice is cooked, the cooking will stop. Fluff up the rice with a Rice Paddle and let it rest for 10 minutes. This is to drive off the excess moisture. Oster Rice Cooker should take around 20-30 minutes to cook the rice.

Steamer Basket

The Oster Rice Cooker has a steamer basket. This contraption is used to steam food while its cooking. To use it just simply put it between the rice prior to cooking. I recommend cooking lighter stuff like vegetables. Fish works as well.

Oster Rice Cooker Ratio

As stated before, the Ratio of water to rice will depend on the rice. For Short to Medium Grain Rice, I prefer using 1.5 x water to rice. For Long Grain rice, I like using 1 x 1. You can adjust this amount if you like it more runny or dry. More water for a runnier rice and less for a dryer/firmer one.

How do Rice Cooker Work?

The Rice Cooker is actually a pretty simple device. When you press the cook button, the cooker will start heating the pot. As the water is driven off, the temperature will rise. When the water is evaporated, the temperature of the rice will eventually rise amount boiling temperature. That is the signal for it to stop cooking.

Which Size Rice Cooker?

You should get the rice cooker depending on the amount you cook. The larger rice cooker can better asses the temperature based on its rated size. For example, 6 cup can cook rice best at 3-6 cup. Smaller 3 cup rice cooker can cook 1-3 cup more effectively.

Thoughts

Oster Rice Cooker is a good basic rice cooker. While it doesnt have the features of the more expensive rice cooker, it does the job. Using it can be a little difficult to those who are unexperienced. But if you follow basic instruction, you should be able to cook perfect rice each time.
