Norwalk Juicer Review

Juice is one of the healthiest drinks on the planet. Getting the right extraction without destroying the enzymes, is the challenging part. What usually cause the enzyme to be destroyed is heat. Which is why you see a lot of advert stating the operating temperature. Norwalk Juicer is one of the most expensive juicer on the market. They offer both a masicating feature and a hydraulic press in one machine. However, is this feature worth the price it commands?

How to Use Norwalk Juicer

Using a Norwalk juicer is quite a bit different than your standard juicer. While it still has a pulping feature, you need to utilize the hydraulic press to extract the juice. To get started, chop the fruits or vegetable to size. When that is done, drop the food down the chute. At the bottom, there is a spinning blade that will pulp the food. When done, you need to put the pulp into a bag. When done, place the bag on the hydraulic press and press the lever on the side. As it rises, the juice is slowly pressed out. I should caution putting the press at the most up right feature for more than 10 seconds, you can risk damaging it.

Is this method better?

The major benefit to this method is the cold extraction and how much flavor you retain. Since there is little heat generated, you get the full juice extraction. Other machines can get a little hotter and that can destroy some of the enzyme. Having said that, this method is slow and tedious. If you plan on working in a kitchen, then this can be better. All you need to do is pulp a lot of veggies before hand and press when needed. But if you plan on doing it once in a while, its kind of a lot of work. There is a lot to clean and the juice you get is small.

How much does Norwalk Juicer Weight?

Depending on the model you get, the weight can be around 58-60 lbs. The reason why its so heavy is because of the hydraulic press. I suspect that press is also why its so expensive in the first place. Make sure that you have a good amount of counter space. Transporting it around can be a little difficult.

Do you need a Norwalk Juicer?

For most people, no. Its too expensive and I personally think what you get out of it is not worth it. One of the main cost is the milling of the machine parts. Its beautifully made in the USA. The other feature is the hydraulic press. If that feature is that important, I recommend that you just purchase a bottle jack. Its a lot cheaper and probably more reliable. You do need to find a place where you can press it on, but I am sure you can bolt a bar to the ground.

Is a Juicer a Good Investment

It really depends on how much you use it. If it is a critical part of your diet and you use it daily, then yes. However, if its a once a month thing, you might want to reconsider. There is a lot of health benefit over store bought juicer. You can control the sugar content and you get the purest form of the juice.

Some ask if its cheaper than buying store bought juice. Again, that depends on how much you use it. You can recoup the cost if you use it for at least 5 years with daily drinking. However, using it once in a while is not worth the cost. You also have to consider the cost of buying fruits. Cheap fruits like apple is ok, but stuff like strawberry can be costly, considering the amount of juice you are getting.

How do you get Juice Cheaply

Centrifugal Juicers are your best bet. You can find them a lot cheaper then the Norwalk Juicer. One of the best juicer that I use is the one by Breville. Their base model is in reach for most people. I would recommend this over the Norwalk if you are a casual juicer.

Thoughts

While the Norwalk Juicer is a impressive juicer. The price tag that it ask is simply too high. You have a lot of cheaper options like those made by breville. The juice from Norwalk might taste a little better, but the question is if the cost is worth it. For me it isnt.
