Instant Pot Air Fryer are a great way to cut down on the grease for a healthier way of eating. There is quite a few different models on the market. From the stand alone vortex to the air fryer lid. They are all designed a little differently. However, at its core, they all pretty much work the same. Which is a fan attached to a heating element. I would say that the lid model is the most interesting one. This review will take a closer look at the design and features. We will see how it actually works and whether its any good.

Is Air Frying really the same as deep frying?

Air frying is different from deep frying. When you deep fry, oil is used to crisp up and puff up food. When food is dropped in, water molecule escape and creates gaps. This gap will lead to a empty void in the food. At which point, oil will take its place. Depending on the oil uptake, it will affect how greasy the food is. If cooked at a right temperature, a deep fry will not be at all greasy and remain relatively healthy.

In a Air Fry, the food is not submerged in oil at all. Rather, it uses hot air to dry out and crisp the surface of the food. The fan is there to circulate around the hot air so it gives it a fry like cooking. While it is generally lesser in calorie, it is usually not the same. The two results are different. One is not necessarily better than the other, its just that the flavor will be different.

This section will discuss how the Instant Pot Air Fryer lid is designed. We will see how it works and whether its worth it.

Why get the Lid?

The main reason why people want to get the lid is to save space. Air Fryers already take up a lot of counter space. By having a a lid that can attach to your pressure cooker will theoretically cut the size in half. Now the issue with that is the lid is massive… It has to take on the function of the heater and the fan. As such most of the internal mechanism is still there. Just without the big pot. So while the lid is slightly smaller, it still takes up quite a bit of space.

Basket

What the pressure cooker act as is mainly a vessel. Its just a pot to hold the food in. It comes with a separate basket with perforated holes on the bottom. This hole is designed so that air can circulate better. The main issue that I have with it is the sides. Other air fryer will have the side open for a more even distribution. So while it does work, its not as good as basket with sides perforation. The upside is that they have a notification to tell you when to remove the lid and shake the food. But even then, that is a bit of a hassle. you have to remove the top and use a glove, its searing hot. In a basket style, all you need to do is pull and toss. Pop it back in and its working again.

Power

This unit has 1500 watts of power. Which is pretty powerful. Most home appliance will max out at 1800 watts. This means that the manufacturer did not cheap out on the components. You should be able to air fry as well as the competitor.

Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid Thoughts

Overall, its an ok purchase. You do save some space, but it is quite large. If you leave the original lid off the instant pot, then you might save some space. In terms of performance, it works just as well as any other air fryer. However, removing the lid to toss the food is annoying. It also gets really hot so you need to get a glove. All in all, if you want a matching set, get the lid, if not a dedicated air fyer might be better.

Instant Vortex Plus 7-in-1 Review

The Instant Vortex Plus 7-in-1 is a full unit air fryer. It has no lid but rather a tray that opens out. In the center, they uses a rotating basket like a rotisserie.

This basket is actually one of the most efficient out of all the air fyer out there. Since air can get all around the food and the basket rotates, you can maximum heat contact. If your food seems to be overly dry, all you need to do is either lower the temperature or shorten the cooking time. However, the size is pretty small. You wont be able to fit a lot of food inside it.

I think what makes this air fryer a winner is that you can actually air fry a whole chicken. The center will rotate the chicken so that it can maximum browning like a rotisserie chicken. The flavor from it will actually be better than the oven.

The other features are kind of lack luster. The broil and dehydrator are a bit of a miss and not really necessary. If I had a choice between this and the lid, I would go for the Vortex model
