Sunbeam Ansonville Cookware Set Design
This section will go through the gvarious design and features of Sunbeam Ansonville Cookware Set.
Handle
The handle is an all metal design. These type of handle gets hot on the stove and usually gives the cookware a upper oven safe temperature of around 400 degree fahrenheight. For this reason, professional chef prefer these type over the silicone version. Not the Sunbeam Ansonville though. According to their description, this is not even rated for use in the oven. Which is not a good sign. If it was not even oven safe, a silicone handle would be much better. It wont get hot and it gives a superior soft grip.
While the handle doesn’t cause fatigue, its not exactly ergonomic. It is large and if your hand doesnt fit, it will feel uncomfortable. Another thing to note is that if your hand is greasy, the handle can slip due to its smooth nature. Overall, the handles are pretty badly designed.
Shape
The shape of the cookware is pretty decent. They seem to be lacking a frying pan. This is probably due to the extra cost in manufacturing. Making it flare out requires additional steps and this cookware set seems to be more focused on cost. The set that you get looks like it can be stamped out with a hydraulic press with rapid succession. Saving money in the long run. All you get is a saute pan, two sauce pot and a dutch oven.
Having said that, how these pots are shaped is pretty good. They are more wide than tall. This means that you can sear food in single batches. Reducing your overall cooking time. The saute pan might be a little difficult to use as a frying pan though. The sidewall makes it difficult to toss and flip food with a spatula. They are good for braising. You might want to buy a separate nonstick pan.
Disc Bottom vs Fully Cladded
Sunbeam Ansonville Cookware Set uses a disc bottom in the design. What this mean is that manufacturer will put a plate on the bottom of the cookware. This makes it heavier and improves general performance. It can store more heat than a pot with a thinner base. However, there are issues with this type of design. Namely, the heat disparity. Since the base is much thicker, it takes a lot longer to heat up. The sides are thinner meaning that they will have a tendency to scorch. This type of design is usually cheaper to produce but has drawback.
The better design is the Fully Cladded cookware. This is where manufacturer sandwich multiple different metal together. The thickness from the base to the rim is the same thickness. This ensures the same heat throughout the pan. Not only that, you get the best properties of the different metal. The stainless steel interior and exterior wont react with acidic food. The aluminum core also conducts heat very fast. It is truly one of the best cookware design out there. It just cost a lot.
Cooking with Stainless Steel
If you have never cooked with stainless steel, there are some challenges over nonstick. Namely the issue with things sticking. If you do not heat the food up properly, things will stick and tear. However, what you get is the undying durability of stainless steel. Nonstick cookware usually last one 1 or 2 year before it needs to be replaced.
To cook in stainless steel properly, heat up the pan fully to around 350 degree above, then add oil. When you sear food, let it sit and wait until it release. You will usually see the bottom of the food form a maillard reaction. What that is is the brown golden color and things should pop right off. Once you master this technique, cooking scrambled egg in stainless steel pan should not be an issue at all. While there is a learning curve, in the long term it will save you more money.
Sunbeam Ansonville Cookware Set Thoughts
The Sunbeam Ansonville Cookware Set is cheaply made and flimsy. You can see all the cost saving measures that they used. It is a big departure of how sunbeam use to be. Having said that. This set is dirt cheap. They are great for learning, especially on stainless steel. For a purpose of study, they are one of the best value on the market. Why destroy a 500 dollar pan when a starter set would be better. I just wouldnt get this for anyone who has experience cooking though.
