Cook n Home Stainless Steel Cookware Set, how do they compare with other manufacturer. There is really not a lot known about the company Cook N home. From what I found, they are based in California whose product is imported from China. Based on the location they are at, they are most likely one of the many Chinese importer in City of Industry. Regardless, they offer one of the most affordable stainless steel cookware on the market. This review will take a closer look at the construction and design of their cookware.

Cook n Home Stainless Steel Cookware Set
Disc Bottom Design
One of the most popular cookware set in their set is the stainless steel series. Those features a disc bottom base that improves the weight and heat capacity of the cookware. Usually these type of cookware are made this way because it is cheaper to manufacturer. However, there are many draw back to this type of design. The biggest issue is the heat difference from the base to the sidewall. Since the base is much thicker, it gets hot slower than would the sidewall. The end result is that food will scorch on the side. There are also issues of durability. Past test done by America Test Kitchen has shown that these type of cookware, do not fare very well in the long term.
Other alternatives are fully cladded cookware such as those made by All Clad. The thickness is the same from the base to the rim. They tend to combine the best properties of different metal. The issue is that the price is substantially higher than the disc bottom cookware.
Handle
There are two types of handles in their cookware set. One is covered in silicone and the other in stainless steel. The silicone covered one is not oven safe and slightly cheaper. The main benefit of the silicone version is that it does not get hot on the stove top. It also helps maintain grip thanks to its texture. The stainless steel handle, does get hot but its oven safe. I personally prefer the metal handle thanks to the versatility. I usually cook with a towel regardless of the handle.
The shape of the handle is very simple. A rounded bar that is comfortable to hold. While its nothing exceptional, its moderately comfortable and should suit the need for everyday cooking.
The loop handle on the pots look really cheap and flimsy. It looks like every stop was put out to save money. Ultimately, it looks like you get what you pay for.
Shape
They seem to be missing the most important cookware in the household, the frying pan. Frying pan are great for searing and reducing liquid. Instead what you get is a saute pan. While those are great, the side tends to pool liquid, causing food to steam.
Now I cant say for sure, but seems like this decision was done to save on cost. A frying pan with a gradient wall cost more to manufacturer. In their line of cookware, it seems like all of them was just pressed with a machine. Doing this will let them churn out a lot of cookware at once.
However, if you can get by without a frying pan, their pots should function just fine. They are suitable for boiling liquid. The mini dutch oven is more wide than tall. This lets you sear more food in one batch, reducing cooking time. It is a bit redundant though, there is too many variation of the same pot.
Lids
Lids are a simple tempered glass. They let you see through initially when cooking. However, after liquid start to steam, you wont be able to see inside. The other issue is durability. Glass will never be as durable as metal and you have to baby it. This is something extra you have to think about. When I am cooking, I am too busy to be concerned about this. For this reason, I would have preferred an all metal design. There is a vent hole in the lid, so theres that.
Durability
I think this is the biggest issue with Cook n Home Stainless Steel Cookware Set. If you look at the reviews on amazon, there are people complaining about the rivets. When the metal expands during heating, they cause the metal to expand and contract. Ultimately, this causes stresses in the pans and cause it to fail. Given the construction of the other parts, it would not surprise me if they used a cheap grade of steel. Ultimately, these thing are poorly constructed and I dont expect to last more than a year or two.
The pieces in the cookware set is not very versatile. In their 12 piece set, half of it is lids. You get one true sauce pot and 4 dutch oven of various size. One saute pan that is supposed to take the task of the skillet. Ultimately, the cookware set is very limiting.
Cook n Home Stainless Steel Cookware Set Thoughts
Cook n Home Stainless Steel Cookware Set is very affordable. You really cant beat the price. However, if you take a closer look at its construction, you can see why its so cheap. The cheap handle, to the disc bottom construction. Complaints about the rivets and ultimately its durability. If you are an experienced cook, I recommend you stay away. However, for beginners, this make a great set. You can destroy it without breaking your bank. You should use this set as a starter cookware, before you accidentally break a good set of cookware.
