What is Anodized Cookware?

Anodized cookware are stronger than the traditional non stick cookware. They harden the nonstick finish by electroplating it on to the cookware. Where as the traditional teflon is painted and then baked on. According to manufactures, the anodized version is more durable. To get a better idea of how electroplating works, take a look at the video below.

In my experience, hard anodized cookware tends to be thicker and heavier. This will lead to better heat distribution and performance. If two pans are at the same price point, I recommend getting the hard anodized version.

Anolon Advanced Cookware Set Design

This section will be focusing mostly on how Anolon Advanced Cookware set is designed. We will be looking at things like handle, shape and performance.

Handle

The handles are very comfortable. They are nice and round with a rubberized finish. This prevents the handle from getting hot and causing fatigue. If you look at the shape of the handle, it curves inward, matching the grip of a hand.

The base and the loop are still made of metal though. You should be careful when holding it. The rubber finish will lull you into a false sense of security. Other than that, the color matches the pot but it really does not win any marks for looks. It is a very standard looking pan.

Shape

In general, all the cookware is shaped really well. The skillet has low flaring side that promotes evaporation. This also helps when you are turning the food with a spatula. The pots and pans all have rolled lips which aid when pouring liquid. A pan without a pouring lip will cause liquid to run down its side. What is odd is how the top rim is shaped. For whatever reason, their pots bulges outward near the top. This adds a little more volume space but looks odd and out of place.

Anolon Cookware Non Stick Finish

Non stick finish is one of the best technology invented for cookware. However, it is also one of its weakest link. A non stick pan is only as durable as the coating. Once the coating goes, so does the pan. For this reason, I never recommend spending more than 20 dollar for a piece of nonstick cookware. On the other hand, food sticking is also one of the biggest challenge to new cooks everywhere. The non stick coating basically eliminated that hurdle.

Nonstick coating health and safety

There has been a lot of fear in regard to the non stick coating. Mainly about the safety of consumption. Since these teflon coating is chemically inert, it will past through your body without any issues. While I dont recommend consuming it, it wont really cause any problems.

What is an issue is over heating. By raising the pan above 600 degree Fahrenheit. You can be subjected to fumes that cause symptoms called the teflon Flu. Flu like symptoms will start to develop. You can avoid this by always heating the pan up with oil in it. The oil will regulate the max temperature of the pan. If it starts smoking, you went past the smoking point of the oil.

Easy Clean Up

One of their marketing gimmick is how easy it is to clean. And this is true. Their interior and exterior of the pan is coated with the non stick finish. This makes grease and food come off with ease. The dark interior and exterior also makes it hard to see any burnt on grease or mark.

Anolon Cookware Thoughts

The Anolon Advance cookware basically tries to eliminate any issues that consumer might faces when cooking. It is affordable, non stick, easy to clean, shaped well and comfortable. For around 200 dollar for a whole set of cookware, you really cant beat it. The only issue is how long they will last, like I said before, the biggest factor is the non stick. They do have a lifetime warranty. But like most manufacturer, they will probably deny you for mistreating it. Luckily, its so cheap that it wont really matter. In fact, it will probably cost you more to ship it in then to just buy a replacement.
