Ballarini Cookware Review

The Ballarani brand has been around for over 130 year. However, in the states they are relatively unknown. Their company is currently based in Rivarolo, Mantovano and manufacturer their cookware in the same village. Their product offering ranges from aluminum to even ceramic. In 2015, they became a part of Zwilling, a German Cutlery manufacturer. Thanks to Zwilling marketing effort, the brand Ballarini have started to become main stream in America. This article will be taking a closer look at Ballarini Parma Skillet but the general information found here can be applied to other cookware.

Ballarini Parma Cookware Design

This section will go through the different points of the cookware. We will go over handle, shape and overall design.

Handle

The handle is made of plastic/rubber. It wont transfer heat like metal would and it stays cools throughout cooking. However, because of the plastic design, it is not recommended to put the pan in a oven over 300°F. Near the front of the handle, there is a divot at the base. That divot is for your thumb giving it extra control. I would caution users to avoid this as the metal clasp can burn you.

The interesting thing about the metal clasp is that it has a built in heat gauge. This tells you when the pan is at optimal cooking temperature. This is a better design than T-fal heat indicator. The angle always throws off the color and it never works. It is pretty neat that they integrated this design.

Shape

The shape of the cookware is pretty basic. It is a classic French Skillet Design. The curved base makes it great for tossing food. The Rim has no rolled lip or pouring spots. This makes pouring liquid difficult. If you dont do it fast enough, it will dribble down the side.

At the base of the cookware, they integrated a extra thick base. This disc help in heat retention and improve performance overall. Pans without this disc will generally lose heat fast and cause you to steam food.

If you look at the pot, almost all of them will have a weird curve to its side. I assume this was done to increase the capacity while reducing cost. I would have preferred a straight sided pot.

Lid

The lid is made of glass. This lets you peer into the pot to see how the food is cooking. However, once steam builds up, its pretty much useless. I would have preferred a metal one for durability. While you cant see through it, having a metal lid means one less thing to worry about. Glass lids can shatter and ruin your whole dish.

The handles on the lid is made of plastic. It wont get hot like a metal one.

Ballarini Cookware Warranty and Non Stick Coating

Ballarini uses a non stick coating called Granitium. It is supposedly titanium reinforced with flecks of ceramic coating. I always hear some variation of this design from different manufacturer. Some will call it earth others will call it rocky. I believe its meant to give it a feeling of toughness. On the Ballarini they make it look like granite. However, in my experience, ceramic non stick coating are not durable at all. Its a good thing that the cookware set is affordable. I suspect you would have to replace it in 2 or 3 year time.

Based on their description, they claim that their coating is metal utensil safe. Meaning that you can use a fork when cooking. While I personally dont recommend it. This is great for warranty purpose. The chance of them denying your warranty is lower. Other manufacturer will automatically decline you if you “misuse” it. This at least gives me the confidence that if one fails, I can replace it.

Healthy Cookware?

So the terms healthy cookware is probably alluding to the usage of oil. Less oil means more healthy, right? Not really. Fat adds flavor and fat keeps you full for longer. You need some fat when cooking and this fear of fat lead to the whole diabetes epidemic. So really, dont be afraid of fat. Its important if you want to cook great food. Restaurant uses a ungodly amount of butter. What you use at home will be a fraction of that.

FAQ

Is Ballarini Cookware Safe?

Yes, Ballarini cookware is safe to use. Unless you plan on attacking someone with it.

Is Ballarini Oven Safe?

It is safe up until 300 Degree F. Higher than that, the handle can start melting.

How to clean Ballarini

Cleaning is relatively easy due to its non stick coating. Wash as you would with hot soapy water. The debris and gunk should fall right off. You can even stick the cookware set into the dishwasher.

Ballarini Parma Cookware Thoughts

This is like every other non stick cookware. The only difference is that its made in Italy and it has a indicator handle. The good news is that its really affordable. You can find a full ten set cookware at a really affordable price. There is nothing too bad or special about it. Its perfect for the casual chef who just needs something to cook in.

I bought a full set of Ballerini Parma non stick cookware. I just had a question if you can put it in the dishwasher and use metal utensils?

Hi Tamer,

I could not find any official information about it being dishwasher safe. In my experience, I recommend that you do not put it in the dishwasher. Even if they say its compatible, I would still avoid it. It will drastically reduce the lifespan of the nonstick coating. The same is true for metal utensils.

When you wash it, try to only use the soft side of the sponge.

I hope it works out for you.

Hi Rosemarie,

I assume the brown spots are burnt on grease and not rust. If that is the case, I recommend trying to soak them in white wine vinegar. The longer you soak it, the looser the grease will get. Try doing it overnight.

Also, I would make sure that the base is stainless steel. Aluminum base can get discolored and will start to look grey and worn.

I have been using my Ballarini frying pan every day for scrambling eggs for about 3 months. I am seeing a build up of something black on the inside bottom edge of the pan. When I look at it under the microscope it seems to be a rubbery material. It doesn’t want to come off. I am concerned that it may be a toxic material that I am eating. Who can I call from Ballarini to discuss.

It sounds like the nonstick material is rubbing off. Depending on your pan, it can be either teflon or ceramic but I cant be sure.

As far as I know, those coating are chemically neutral and not toxic. However, contacting Ballarini is the best way to know. Either way, it sounds like your pan needs to be replaced.

This is the number for Zwilling, the parent company.

I am not sure if they handle the customer service for Ballarini. Exact phone number should have been included in your user guide.

If I were you, I would try contacting the manufacturer. The warranty in the United States and the UK might be different though.

btw cleaning wont help your sticking situation.

Yea, your best bet is to replace them. Ceramic nonstick dont really last that long.
